Attack of the Snow Chicken
One of my first images from a wild afternoon of shooting frost-laden trees in Mývatn. I noticed these tracks, which looked like snake-tracks but were obviously NOT made by snakes. Out driver Stefan told me they were actually made by rock ptarmigans - small, white, shy birds. Ptarmigans are sometimes called 'snow-chickens' in the US, which I found quite entertaining. The Icelandic name, rjúpa, rolls better on the lips but is not as funny.
